I had just gotten back from another East Coast trip with my cousins for a mini reunion vacation. I say mini because not everyone could go but it was still a lot of fun!
Along with my brother and cousins, we headed to LAX Wednesday night to catch a plane to Raleigh, North Carolina to begin our East Coast adventure. Our other half of the family lives in New York, North Carolina and Virginia Beach.
My brother’s 18th birthday was the following day and I’m glad I was able to have him come along for the trip. My brother and I have been to this side of the coast previously but that was many years ago. My other two cousins that came with haven’t been since they were little kids so they had no remembrance of it. I’m glad I was able to convince them to go 😉
We landed in Raleigh at 6am, secured the rental car and headed our way to our cousin Lisa’s new home. Compared to LA, the houses here were so big and way more affordable! I guess thats a good incentive to move if you want a bigger affordable house but I just love California so much I don’t think I could do it.. I’ll just suffer in the payments lol.
Upon landing in the East Coast, we were hit with the humidity and I could already tell the bug bites here will not be pleasant.
We met up with our cousin and she gave a quick little tour of her new home. We only had one night to spend there but it was a lot of fun playing Mario Kart and watching movies while pigging out on food. (That’s what you’re supposed to do on vacation, right?).
The following morning we got up at 6 to head to our uncles house for breakfast. The drive was a couple of hours but it was worth it because our uncle cooked up a literal feast for us! I’m damn serious too, it was way too generous! After eating breakfast with him, we all headed back on the road for a 3 hour drive to Virginia Beach to meet with the rest of the family.
We didn’t really have an itinerary for this trip, it was more of a chill hangout with family that we haven’t seen in a few years. I met up with my cousin Mariah and we went straight to the tattoo shop to get our matching tattoos done before the festivities began. Later that night we all enjoyed drinking and catching up and played gambling games of course (filipino’s, duh). I can’t really recall what else we did that night but the following Saturday was more of our day to really enjoy Virginia Beach.
After eating breakfast at our aunts house, a handful of us went to go explore the actual beach for souvenirs, photos and ride those Bird electric scooters. (I absolutely love those scooters and I think I’ll choose that as my method of transport whenever available lol). Later that day was the bbq/feast at my aunt’s house and I really do miss having home cooked Filipino food. I know some dishes but it just tastes different when the older generation cooks it haha. After eating, we all (18 of us) decided to go out bowling on the Naval Base that night. Perks of being a military family! After a few games and cramping hands (mine especially), we went to this private beach entrance on the base for some drinks and conversation. I should note that there are A LOT of crabs on the beaches here and not gonna lie, they looked like sand spiders and I might’ve screamed more than once.. I don’t think we went to bed until 4am that morning haha. Such a great time for our last night of the trip.
Sunday was our last day of our vacation and it was kind of bittersweet. We had yet another feast for breakfast before making our drive back to Raleigh to catch our flight. I didn’t really take as many pictures on this trip as I was more enjoying the family time. The post-vacation depression really hit hard this time around but I’m grateful to have a large family that is so close. I definitely miss them. Word has it the next reunion may be on a cruise?? You already know I’m game!
